It's not like Gideon's done much sawing before, either, at least at this scale—cutting through the rusty-ass bars on her cell window with a broken piece of plate doesn't count. But she's a quick learner, and she pays attention to what works for Aleksander and what doesn't, so she manages to not make much of an idiot of herself.
